The 36th winner of the 1000 Guineas, held on Thursday 26th April 1849 over the Ditch Mile, was The Flea (10/1), a chestnut filly by Coronation out of Puce, owned by Mr Frank Clarke. The winner won by a short head, with a length back to the third. A field of 10 runners contested the race which was worth £1,450 (Equivalent to £158,000 in 2017)
